I am a clinical mental health counselor who goes to counseling, believes in the power and effectiveness of counseling, and commends anyone for courageously seeking counseling as an act of love and self-care. Counseling is a worthy endeavor and a gift to yourself. I'm honored to join with you and understand your story. Trust is earned and I allow time and space for you to gain a sense of who I am and feel safety and nonjudgment as we work together.
My approach to counseling is from a psychodynamic systems approach, meaning I believe the past matters, as well as the layers of your context including underlying system(s), relationships, and experiences. I work to understand your core experiences, thoughts and beliefs—past and present— and your worldview to promote insight, perspective, and healthier relationship with self and others. My work with you is personalized to what will best serve you best. I'm an integrative counselor. We work together to set goals. Your voice, choice, and collaboration are of paramount importance throughout our therapeutic alliance. We will start with safety and coping skills, and then move at a pace you feel comfortable with. Various treatment modalities I use include cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, expressive arts therapy, existential therapy, person-centered counseling, and relational cultural therapy. Additionally, I implement Jungian analytic play therapy and Adlerian play therapy with children. I have been counseling and serving communities since 2002. Various work sites include non-profit organizations, private practice, grant-funded work with United Way, elementary schools, high schools, college counseling centers, community counseling agencies, jails, hospital settings, and now, the Richmont Trauma Counseling Center.
