Why Families Seek Therapy

Goal of Family Counseling & Therapy

Benefits of Family Therapy

Other Counseling & Therapy Services

Why do families seek therapy services?

Family therapy is a resource designed to reduce stress and conflict. A strong relationship is formed as families work to improve interactions between family members. These relationships play a critical role in the mental health of each family member. There are many reasons why you should seek family therapy. For example, when a child is having a problem with school, substance abuse, or an eating disorder.

At Richmont Trauma Center, our trained therapists are ready; you may need to seek help.

LEARN TO

GROW

CLOSER

Our family affects who we are and who we become, for better and for worse. We learn our vocabulary, our habits, our customs and rituals, and how to view and observe the world around us.

We can help you grow together in a healthy, happy way.

Goal of Family Counseling & Therapy

At Richmont Trauma Center, our goal is to help other family members understand the disorder or addiction. Our therapists will help them to adjust to the psychological changes that the patient may be undergoing.

For example, therapy goals may differ based on the issue:

  • Abuse
  • traumatic experiences
  • addiction
  • other mental illnesses

What are the benefits of family therapy?

Many family therapists provide their professional services to families who seek comfort from the difficulties of family life.

Counseling has proven to provide an excellent service to mend broken relationships and address difficult issues within your family unit.

Therapy Treatments can include:

  • Mental health challenges
  • Addictions
  • Other disorders

Some individuals find the experience of family therapy intimidating because of the shame and guilt of feeling helpless.

At Richmont Trauma Center, our therapists attempt to make environment a productive and safe for everyone involved.

FAMILY THERAPY INVOLVES EVERYONE

Family therapy seeks to identify the source of distress and eliminate it in the least confrontational way possible. It can involve parents, siblings, grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

How is family therapy integrated into treatment programs?

Our trained therapists help families identify areas where potential growth is needed. Again, the goal of family therapy is to address the intrinsic or interconnected nature of family.

As a result, family therapy may include personalized counseling sessions for:

  • parents
  • spouses
  • siblings
  • or children

A typical family therapy session could cover topics such as:

  • family history
  • communication techniques
  • and self-care techniques

Is attachment or developmental trauma part of family therapy?

This type of trauma is experienced in the family of origin within the parent/child relationship. If a child does not develop a healthy attachment to their caregiver(s) then the child develops unhealthy ways of communicating, coping and self-soothing which in turn impacts future attachment relationships such as marital and future parent/child relationships.

Could betrayal trauma be part of family therapy treatment?

This type of trauma occurs when a spouse experiences repeated denial, lies, manipulation, crazy making and other emotional and mental abuse from their partners who are attempting to cover up and conceal emotional, relational and/or sexual infidelity.

The Richmont Trauma Center (RTC) has been created to provide quality mental health treatment to those impacted by single episode and complex trauma. We are honored to walk the journey with individuals and families as they work to heal and grow.

We honor the difficult process in which a client works to reestablish safety in their world, learns effective emotion management and health coping skills, and integrates their traumatic experience(s) within the established safety of the present.

Our therapists approach trauma from empirically validated approaches that incorporate the whole person. They are trained in trauma-specific treatments and will participate in ongoing training and consultation. The RTC also seeks to provide trainings for the community and other helping professionals in order to increase education about the impact of trauma as well as effective treatment.
