“Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, ‘I will try again tomorrow.” Mary Anne Radmacher
Specializations
I specialize in working with individuals experiencing adjustment and life changes, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relational turmoil, trauma, wellness, and identity development. I bring a depth of experience to my work including years of experience serving survivors of trauma and individuals struggling with the disease of addiction. My approach integrates trauma-informed care with lovingkindness, mindfulness, self-compassion, and existential inquiry. I create space for each client’s story to unfold at their own pace, recognizing that trust is earned over time and that safety is foundational to change. I offer a holistic and integrative approach, drawing from brief interventions, CBT, TF-CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, a Psychodynamic approach, and Narrative Exposure Therapy.

About Laura
My heart is to break down barriers for individuals to access counseling and to promote healthy families and communities. I bring a unique blend of clinical and research expertise, having served as a Co-PI on violence intervention feasibility studies at major trauma centers in North Carolina, and as Co-Investigator of a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-funded clinical trial on alcohol screening and brief intervention. I participated in an NIH-funded, multi-center study of stepped collaborative care for trauma patients with PTSD under the direction of PI Dr. Douglas Zatzick, providing evidence-based interventions for trauma recovery and PTSD reduction under supervision at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center
I am passionate about counselor education and trauma pedagogy, and my research includes trauma-informed supervision and the integration of spirituality and cultural competence into clinical care. My global advocacy experience—offering trauma and emotional regulation support to children and caregivers in countries such as South Africa, and the Philippines—adds a unique cultural lens to my clinical practice. I am a counselor who goes to counseling, believes in the power of it, and honors every individual who courageously steps into the process!
