Specializations

I work with individuals and couples experiencing a variety of concerns, with particular interest in:

  • Young adults navigating identity, relationships, career decisions, faith, purpose, and the transition into adult life
  • Trauma and difficult life experiences
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Faith and spiritual concerns, including questions about God, suffering, identity, purpose, and meaning
  • Grief, loss, and end-of-life concerns
  • Life transitions and seasons of significant change
  • Relationship and couples concerns, including communication difficulties, emotional disconnection, and recurring relationship patterns

I especially value working with people who want to understand not only what they are experiencing, but also why certain patterns, emotions, and struggles may be present in their lives.

Have you reached a place where you find yourself asking, What now? How did I get here? Who am I becoming? Where is God in all of this?

I work with individuals and couples who are navigating those kinds of questions, helping them make sense of their experiences, understand the patterns beneath the surface, and move forward with greater clarity, hope, and purpose.

My counseling style is warm, relational, curious, and unhurried. I believe that what we struggle with in the present often makes more sense when we understand the experiences, relationships, and patterns that have shaped us. Therapy offers a place to slow down, become curious about what is happening beneath the surface, and begin connecting the past with the present—while also identifying practical ways to move forward.

Education and Training

I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Richmont Graduate University and a Bachelor of Science in Religion: Biblical and Theological Studies from Liberty University.

My clinical approach is depth-oriented and psychodynamic, grounded in trauma-informed care. I also integrate cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) when helpful.

For couples, I have completed Level 1 and Level 2 training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and incorporate Gottman-informed approaches to help couples better understand relationship patterns, improve communication, strengthen emotional connection, and navigate difficult seasons together.

About Debbie

Faith and spirituality are particularly important to me. For clients who desire it, I welcome Christian faith into the counseling process as a source of identity, hope, meaning, and healing. I also understand that faith itself can become complicated, particularly after trauma, loss, disappointment, or major life change. Counseling can provide a safe place to wrestle honestly with questions about God, faith, suffering, purpose, and meaning without feeling pressured to arrive at easy answers.

Before becoming a counselor, I spent more than twenty-five years in lay ministry, including Bible teaching, women’s ministry, soul care, and spiritual formation. That experience, along with my theological education, has shaped the way I listen to and understand people while remaining distinct from my clinical role as a counselor.

I see clients in person in Atlanta and through telehealth throughout Georgia. I offer a complimentary 15-minute initial consultation to help determine whether we would be a good fit.
